# The Flowboard

Run the clinic day from the Flowboard in Veterian — the five columns, moving a patient by dragging, starting a check-in, and the filters that narrow it.

The Flowboard shows today's outpatient work on one screen. Every patient who is booked, has arrived, is being seen or is waiting to pay appears in the matching column. You run the day by moving patients between those columns.

The Flowboard is not a separate tracker kept alongside the records. The columns correspond to the visit's own statuses, so moving a patient here also updates the visit record. See [Record a visit](/visits/record-a-visit).

## Where to Find This Section

**Flowboard** in the left menu.

## The Columns

- **Today's Appointments**
- **Checked In**
- **In Progress**
- **In Review**
- **Completed Today**

| Column | What is in it |
|---|---|
| **Today's Appointments** | Booked for today and not yet arrived. These are appointments, not visits; no visit record exists yet |
| **Checked In** | Arrived. The visit now exists |
| **In Progress** | Being seen |
| **In Review** | Waiting on a result or a second opinion |
| **Completed Today** | Finished today |

Only the first column behaves differently: it holds appointments. From the second column onwards, every card is a visit record with a status.

## Moving a Patient

Drag the card to the next column and the visit's status changes with it. That is the only step required; there is no separate save and no second place to update afterwards.

Because the columns correspond to the visit statuses, you can make the same change from inside the visit. Either way, the board and the record show the same thing.

## Starting Work From the Board

Two actions sit on the board itself, so the front desk does not have to leave the screen:

- **Patient Check-in**: checks a patient in and creates the visit record.
- **New Appointment**: books a client who has just walked in or phoned.

> **Note**
> If the patient already has an open visit, checking them in again is refused: a patient can only have one visit open at a time. Veterian offers to take you to the existing one, or to complete it with **Complete Visit**.

## Finding a Patient

The search box accepts either the client or the patient: *Search by customer or patient info.*

## Filters

You can narrow the board with four filters:

- Staff
- Veterinarian
- Visit type
- Which columns are shown at all

**Clear** resets all of them.

> **Caution**
> The filters last for the session only. They are kept as you move around the app, but a full page refresh returns the board to all records. If a patient appears to be missing from the board, check the filters before you check the record.
