# Record a Treatment

Record treatments on a visit in Veterian — the columns, administration routes, who administers it, the invoice switch, and what deleting one affects.

A treatment records what was given to the patient: *medications/treatments administered to the patient or to be administered by the pet owner*. The same entry serves three purposes at once: the medical record on the visit, the stock movement, and the line that reaches the invoice.

This is worth knowing before you start, because it is why a treatment is harder to undo than a note.

## Where to Find This Section

Treatments do not have their own screen; they sit inside the visit. Open the visit and go to **Administered Treatments**. See [Record a visit](/visits/record-a-visit).

Until anything is added, the section reads *No treatments have been added.*

## How to Add a Treatment

1. Open the visit → **Administered Treatments**.
2. Add a line for each medication or treatment.
3. Click **Save Treatments**.

## The Columns

| Column | What it holds |
|---|---|
| **Medication/Treatment** | Picked from the clinic's products and services, not typed free |
| **Quantity/Dosage** | How much was given |
| **Administration** | The route (see below) |
| **Administered By** | **Veterinarian** or **Pet Owner** |
| **Invoice** | Whether this line goes onto the visit's invoice |

### Administration Route

The route list is fixed and offers eleven options:

**Oral Dose** · **Oral Tablet** · **Injection (Intramuscular or Subcutaneous)** · **Intravenous (IV) Dose** · **Topical Dose (Applied on Skin)** · **Transdermal (Patch on Skin)** · **Eye Drops** · **Intranasal (Via Nose)** · **Rectal (Via Rectum)** · **Aerosol (Via Inhalation)** · **Other**

### Who Administers It

**Veterinarian** covers treatments given at the clinic during the visit.

**Owner Administered** covers what the owner continues at home, such as a course of tablets they take with them. It is still recorded on the visit and still leaves the clinic's stock, so it also belongs on the invoice.

## Marking a Treatment as Not Administered

**Mark as not administered** corrects a line that was recorded but never given, such as an injection prepared and then not used. Use it instead of deleting the line, so the visit still shows what actually happened.

## Treatments and the Invoice

The **Invoice** switch on each line decides whether that line reaches the invoice. Once an invoice exists for the visit, the two stay linked:

- Changes to invoiced treatments are reflected on the invoice automatically.
- On the invoice you can change a treatment line's price and tax rate, and nothing else. To change what was actually done, come back here. See [Create an invoice](/billing/create-an-invoice).

> **Caution**
> Once an e-document has been issued from the visit's invoice, treatment items can no longer be added to that invoice. The e-documents have to be cancelled first. Check the treatments are complete before you issue the e-document.

## Deleting a Treatment

Deleting a treatment does more than remove the line. The confirmation lists what the deletion will affect: the inventory of products and services, and the invoice total. Deleting a treatment also removes the related lines from the invoice and returns the stock.

> **Caution**
> If the invoice cannot be modified, the deletion is refused: *"The invoice cannot be modified to delete this treatment. Please edit the invoice first."* Edit the invoice, then return to this step.

> **Note**
> A product that has since been deleted from your catalogue still shows on the treatment that used it, marked *This product was deleted.* A change to the catalogue does not change the historical record.
